What are the cosmetic benefits of a Nefertiti lift?

So, how does the procedure work?

You probably know that Botox works by temporarily paralyzing muscles, resulting in cosmetic and medical benefits. How does this help to contour the lower face, jaw and neck? The aim of a Nefertiti lift is to relax the group of platysma muscles that extend vertically from the bottom of the face to the collar bone. By continuously pulling down on the lower face, neck, and chin, the platysma muscles can be held responsible for causing the area to become wrinkled, puffy, and saggy over time. Botox injections relax these muscles and turn back the clock.

Once we have discussed your esthetic concerns and reviewed your medical history we will tailor a treatment plan that addresses your needs. Botox will be injected into a few different areas (around half an inch apart) in the platysma muscle in a procedure that causes little, if any discomfort and is completed in just a few minutes, after which you can leave and go about your day.

Is a Nefertiti lift effective?

This procedure is a safe and effective way of slowing down the aging process caused by the downward tugging of the neck muscles. A study in 2007 concluded that the Nefertiti lift was a minimally invasive and effective procedure for those preferring not to have more invasive surgery or at least, keep it at bay for a while. Another study published in July 2018 stated that patients recorded a 91% improvement in their overall appearance and jaw definition. 

However, it is important to remember that the results are not permanent and will need to be repeated regularly as the effects of the Botox starts to wear off – typically every six to twelve months - to maintain the results.

Can anyone have a Nefertiti lift?

Those people that are concerned about the signs of aging can be good candidates for this procedure and because it doesn’t involve surgery, it comes with minimal risk. However, there are several groups of people who aren’t ideal candidates and these include:

• Anyone with an ongoing infection
• Pregnant or breast-feeding women
• Anyone taking drugs or medication that aren’t compatible with botulinum toxin
• Those that have been diagnosed, or have a family history of certain conditions such as Lambert-Eaton Syndrome and Myasthenia Gravis
• Anyone with a mental health condition such as body dysmorphia

 What about the recovery?

There is very little recovery associated with the Nefertiti lift although you may experience minor swelling and tenderness. 

You may require more than one procedure to achieve the desired results but your provider will determine this based on your personal evaluation.

Are there any risks of side effects I should know about?

Similar to most cosmetic procedures, there are some risks associated with the Nefertiti lift:

• Weakness in the neck
• Difficulty swallowing
• Redness or bruising at the injection site
• Headache
• Flu-like symptoms

Side effects may occur if an excessive amount of botulinum toxin is injected or if it is injected in an incorrect location.

To minimize the risk of side effects, consult with your provider about the best ways to prepare for and recover from the procedure.

How much does a Nefertiti lift cost?

Since the Nefertiti is a cosmetic procedure, it won’t be covered by insurance. The cost will be determined by the location of the clinic, the provider’s experience and the number of Botox units needed to achieve the desired effects.
